John grew up on the high plains of Eastern Colorado, in Arriba, before joining the Navy, where he served on the USS Blandy, stationed out of Newport, Rhode Island. The love for Colorado, the Rocky Mountains, the High Plains, being a cowboy and watching every single western movie that was ever made, never wavered. He shared his love of nature with his family, camping, yearly family hunting trips with his brothers, fishing, spending uncountable hours at the Trap Range. He also spent many hours flying, growing tomatoes, and creating gifts with his woodworking skills. John was very, very, very active in the Littleton Elks Lodge #1650, serving and participating on numerous Boards, Committees, Festivities, his time with Laradon Hall held a special place in his heart. One of his highest honors was serving as Colorado State President 2001-2002.
