Joseph Lung Obituary

Joseph D. Lung, lovingly known as Emmett, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2025, at the age of 85.

Born in Denver to Bernice Martinez and Charlie Daniel Lung on December 3, 1939, Emmett grew up in the heart of the city. He attended the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph High School, where he formed lifelong values rooted in family and perseverance.

In 1957, Emmett proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served until his honorable discharge in 1959. Upon returning home, he married Nadine Macarenas in 1962. Together, they welcomed two children, Scott Emmett in 1966 and Shelley Rena in 1970.

Emmett held a remarkable work ethic and pursued many paths throughout his life. He worked for Coors Brewing Company before earning his cosmetology license and opening his own hair salon. He later joined the U.S. Postal Service, where he made many friends and eventually retired in 2002.

An avid outdoorsman, Emmett found peace and joy in fishing, camping, and bicycling. He especially cherished taking his granddaughters on weekend adventures and never missed an opportunity to cheer on his grandchildren in their many extracurricular activities. To his family, he was a devoted father and a deeply loving grandfather whose presence and encouragement will be profoundly missed.

Emmett is survived by his son Scott Lung (Cindy), daughter Shelley Manzano,  and seven grandchildren: Abby and Sophia Manzano, Tris Lung, Ellie Lung, Sadie Lung, Emsley Lung and Everett Lung. He is also survived by his brother John Lung (Margot) and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Bernice Lung; siblings Cas Lung, Barbara Elaine Lung, Charles Lung, Grace Durham, Loren Lung (Betty), and Patricia Thrush (Sonny).

Emmett will be remembered for his humor, his generosity, and his unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on in the countless memories he created with those who loved him most.
