Beloved grandmother, sister, aunt, and best mother in the world, Joyce Elizabeth (Larson) Mock-Hansen went to her heavenly home on Monday, July 14.
Joyce was born and raised in Red Wing, Minnesota. She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hay Creek, Minnesota, graduated from Central High School in Red Wing, Minnesota, and attended University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and the Minnesota School of Business.
In her early life, Joyce served the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in her role as a minister’s wife, in congregations around Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska. She also applied her talents in administrative roles with SB Foot Tanning Co. in Red Wing, Minnesota, Western Insurance, in Fort Scott, Kansas, and in the registrar’s office of Kearney State College, in Kearney Nebraska. Joyce shared her loving, nurturing spirit in running an in-home daycare for eight children and later caring for children with severe disabilities in Martin Luther Homes. She finished her career at Peter Mangone, Inc. in Lakewood, Colorado. After retirement, Joyce gave her time volunteering in her church office.
Joyce loved the simple things in life: the beauty of God’s creation, creating a welcoming and comfortable home, gardening, reading, learning new things, and above all spending time with her family. Her faith in Jesus as her Savior was her comfort and joy throughout life.
Joyce is survived by her devoted daughters Kandace Hummel, Deborah Mock, and Katherine Huxtable; her sons-in-law David Hummel, Michael Arndt, and Chris Huxtable, her grandchildren Justine Hummel, Melissa and Manuel Hummel-Romero, and Rebecca Hummel; her brother Jim Larson and sister-in-law Mary Larson, niece Kristine Larson and nephew Patrick Larson, her stepchildren Katie (Mark) Payne, John (Becky) Hansen, Chris (Gayle) Hansen, Rick (Jane) Hansen, a multitude of cousins, friends, and neighbors, and her adoring grandpups and grandcats.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Hansen, her parents Harold and Verna Larson, and her previous husband David Mock.
Our mom was all kindness, patience, gratitude, forgiveness, and unwavering unconditional love. In her honor, hug your loved ones tight, share a laugh, forgive a grudge, and show someone kindness.
