Larry Ayres Obituary

Larry Alan Ayres, 61, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday afternoon, October 9th, in Morrison, Colorado.

Larry was a beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, and son. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy Leigh Ayres (married March 5th, 1983), and their two children and their spouses: Austin (Mallory) Ayres and Paige Ayres. Larry was also a much-adored Papa to his five grandchildren who lit up his world: Peyton (17), Aynzly (14), Jameson (12), Jordynn (11), and Emerson (7).

Larry was born on August 25, 1964, in Denver, Colorado — the oldest child of Larry and Cathy (Oliver) Ayres (both since passed). He is also survived by his stepfather Don MacDonald, stepmother Becky Ayres, brother Ryan Ayres, and sisters Laura Warden and Jana Newcomer. Larry graduated from Ranum High School in 1982. He and Nancy resided in Commerce City, Colorado, before moving to Morrison in 1993, where they settled and raised their family.

Larry enjoyed an accomplished career — first with Pepsi for eight years in Special Events, and later as a Warehouse Manager with Republic National for 31 years. His strong work ethic, deep relationships, and unwavering devotion to providing for his family left an everlasting mark on his children, friends, and coworkers.

In August 2020, Larry was diagnosed with stage four esophageal cancer and stage two lung cancer. For five years, he fought with remarkable courage, grace, humor, and humility. His resilience and positivity in the face of such immense adversity inspired everyone around him, reflecting the essence of who he was — compassionate, generous, grateful, kind, hardworking, and full of life.

Larry truly lived with heart and passion. He had a gift for sculpting and sketching — always finding beauty in the details. His love for NASCAR and the Denver Broncos ran deep, and if there was a fishing pole, a campfire, and his family nearby, he was in his happy place. Whether it was riding dirt bikes down the trails or seeing who could catch the biggest fish, Larry was always up for a little friendly competition. He never missed a chance to cheer on his children and grandchildren at their games, and music was the soundtrack to it all. There was also something special about the way he loved every animal God blessed him with — each one held a piece of his big, kind heart.

Larry will be deeply missed. Let his loved ones take comfort in knowing that he is now free, unburdened by the limits of his mortal body.

A Celebration of Larry’s Life will be held on Tuesday, October 21st, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m at Faith Bible Chapel South, 4250 S. Federal Blvd., Sheridan, CO 80110. Please join the family afterward for food and memories. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society. Larry’s family is forever grateful to UCHealth Highlands Ranch for helping breathe renewed life into their beloved husband and father, giving them the precious gift of time.
