Leo Maloney Obituary

Leo Maloney passed away peacefully on 12/31/2025. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, and husband. He was the youngest of four children and last of them to be called home to God. Born in Grand Falls, Newfoundland in 1933, he was an all-round athlete playing baseball and hockey through high school and pivoted to softball and tennis as an adult. After high school, and in pursuit of becoming an engineer, he mustered the courage to leave Canada and emigrated to Boston by himself with only shirt-tail relatives to lean on.

He eventually moved to Ft Wayne, Indiana to complete his Engineering education. While in Ft Wayne, he met our Mom, Delores, who was a nursing student. During that time, he became a naturalized US citizen. After graduating and getting married, he and our Mom moved to Milwaukee and later Brookfield, Wisconsin. There they raised six children: Sean, Leann, Kerry, David, Erin, and Brian.

In the early 80's he moved the entire family to Littleton Colorado where he accepted a job at Martin Marietta, now Lockheed Martin. He worked with Martin for over 20 years as an Engineer. Like many immigrants from his generation, he leveraged education and hard work to achieve the American Dream.

After the passing of our Mother, Delores in 2003, he married Barbara in 2005. Leo and Barbara enjoyed 21 years of marriage. They traveled the world, played cards, and spent a ton of time with their grandkids attending all of their sporting events and achievement celebrations; and of course, playing tennis.

Our dad was a sports fan, an aerospace buff, a devout Catholic, a world traveler, music lover, concert goer, dedicated Father, and an inspiration on how to live, to all who knew him. Somehow he managed to keep up with the ever-changing technology of computers, televisions, phones, watches, and managed to stay connected to all of us every day. His generation has seen a lot of technological advances and cultural changes. His generation has a unique perspective of the world, we can learn a lot from them. In fact, the younger generation, would be wise to model their values.

Of his 92 years, the vast majority of those he spent as a daily mass attendant. He was strong in his faith. We often talk about the difference between being happy and being joyful, In fact, the Bible says to be joyful; it doesn’t say to be happy. Dad was a joyful person. His disposition was one of joyfullness and kindness while maintaining a principle-centered character.

He was a blessing to anyone who knew him. If you only knew him a little bit, you knew him in totality, because what you saw is what you got.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his six children, nine grandkids, and two great grandkids. It is our job now to carry forward his Joyful spirit and bless others as he blessed us.
