Luann Jackson (Born December 23, 1938 – Died February 12, 2025)
Luann Jackson, age 86, of Littleton, Colorado, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
She was born in Licking, Missouri, to Wallace & Leona Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her siblings Donald Ray, Wylma, and Glenn. She is survived by her husband, Robert, her children Mark (wife: Shari) and Elizabeth (husband: Shel), and her grandsons Braeden and Collin.
Luann was raised in a small town in the Ozarks (southern Missouri) and was involved in a variety of high school activities – she was both the valedictorian of her graduating class as well as a cheerleader. She attended college at Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri, and did her student teaching at the small private school on the campus of SMS where she taught math to her soon-to-be sister-in-law, Nancy. Luann married Bob Jackson in May of 1960 and they moved to southern California where Bob's sales job took them. Luann taught as a substitute for 6 months before Bob was transferred to the northwest and they moved to Bellevue, Washington. She left teaching to travel with Bob as he covered his sales territory and took notes and transcribed letters for him as they drove.
Her son, Mark, was born in 1964. Bob, Luann and Mark moved to Portland, Oregon for a job transfer and in 1966, they had their daughter, Liz. After three years in Portland, they were transferred again back to Southern California and lived in Placentia, California from 1969-1996. During these years, Bob (and several other partners) started a business called "Irvine Scientific". Luann eventually worked for the company, mostly from home, for a number of years. They moved to Orange, California. In 1996, Bob sold the company and they were able to achieve their dream of moving back to the northwest to retire.
They lived in Columbia City, Oregon from 1996-2021, when they moved to Littleton, Colorado to be near Liz and her husband Shel. Luann was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in 2017 and due to the progress of the disease was in Memory Care at The Gardens at Columbine beginning in November 2023.
Luann was an avid reader for most of her life. She preferred romance stories with happy endings. She read the Bible through several times and was an active student of the Scriptures for many years. Luann played tennis often as a younger woman until she injured her knee and ultimately had to give it up. Luann enjoyed baking particularly for Christmas and she made gingerbread houses, cookies and candies galore. She also crocheted, knitted, sewed and crafted for many years.
Luann was involved in leadership roles in many of the churches they attended: Sunday School teacher, secretarial help, WMU president, and a number of other functions. Her desire to serve and honor God is a key memory of her children.
Bob and Luann traveled extensively for enjoyment as well as for Bob's business. They made several trips to Japan, where she was essentially treated like a queen. They went to New Zealand and Australia, Hawaii, Canada, for a cruise down the Rhine River; and many national parks in the contiguous US over the years. Luann also traveled with Liz to Greece, Israel, and Alaska. That travel was a surprise to her – she’d expected to settle down in southern Missouri and teach school.
Luann became one of the earliest adopters of Apple computers - she turned Mark’s bedroom into her "computer" room after he left for college. She used that computer interest and expertise to help others, particularly churches.
She helped to raise both Mark and Liz to be adults who love Jesus with all of our lives... because it was clear that she had not only “walked the aisle” as a young women, she had genuinely chosen to follow Jesus.
Luann was a wonderful grandmother to Braeden & Collin, her only grand kids. Luann was willing get down on the floor & play with them... and would listen to them babble on & on about stuff she likely had no interest in whatsoever except that they were interested in it.
Luann and Bob celebrated 64 years of marriage last year – and their devotion to each other was a model not only to their children and grandchildren, but to other people around them.
Luann will always be remembered for her kindness and the way that she served those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, March 3, 2025 at Drinkwine Family Morturary in Littleton, Colorado.
