Martin “Marty” Brzeczek Obituary

Martin "Marty" Brzeczek, 79, of Littleton, Colorado, passed away on May 28, 2026.

Marty was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Ed Brzeczek and Lois Posciak Brzeczek. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Carol; his children, Andy Brzeczek and Jessica Teller; his son-in-law, Tim Teller; his cherished grandchildren, Eli, Olivia, and Gabriel; and his sister, Dorislyn Brzeczek Silby.

After graduating from the University of Illinois in 1970, Marty moved to Colorado and began a distinguished career with Martin Marietta, later Lockheed Martin. Over more than three decades, he worked on pioneering projects in environmental engineering, renewable energy, space exploration, and military spacecraft systems.

His early work included developing zero-gravity water recycling systems, advanced wastewater treatment technologies, and innovative solar energy systems that remain in use today. He later joined Martin Marietta's space programs, contributing to the Space Station program and several NASA missions, including the Magellan Venus Radar Mapper and the Mars Observer spacecraft. His work helped advance scientific understanding and space exploration.

Known for his expertise as a systems engineer, Marty enjoyed tackling complex challenges and working on technologies being developed for the first time. He considered collaborating with NASA scientists and aerospace pioneers among the most rewarding experiences of his career.

After retiring, Marty continued to share his knowledge by developing a systems engineering course used to train future engineers. He believed deeply in the value of lifelong learning, curiosity, and pursuing diverse opportunities.

Retirement did not slow Marty down. He traveled the world with Carol, tied flies, and spent countless hours fly fishing with friends. Because he always had a special place in his heart for children, he also served as a substitute teacher at St. Mary's Middle School, an experience that brought him great joy and added a meaningful new dimension to his life.

Marty often reflected on how fortunate he was to have a career filled with challenge, discovery, and meaningful work. He remained grateful for the many opportunities and friendships that enriched his life.

Marty will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his faith, and his love of fly fishing. Most of all, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. For Carol, he was the most wonderful partner from the time they met 56 years ago; and the greatest dad his children could have asked for. His kindness, curiosity, sense of humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
