Nancy Louise Safe

Nancy L. Safe, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on 10/19/24 with her family. She was born on February 9, 1939, in Cassville Wisconsin to Dr. S. C. Bernhardt and Stella (Scheibl) Bernhardt. Nancy graduated from Cassville HS in 1957. She furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science. She began her career as an elementary school teacher in Wisconsin. It was during this time that she met and married her beloved husband of 51 years, Kenneth Charles Safe. Ken’s job as a lab photographer for General Motors led them to Colorado, where they enjoyed the rest of their lives. Nancy’s love of helping others resulted in a career shift, and she became a case manager for the disabled. She pursued this passion until she retired in 2013.

Nancy’s desire to help others included animals. Her fierce opposition to animal cruelty led to the adoption of several abused cocker spaniels whom she and her husband loved with special kindness. Nancy played the piano, too. She and Ken were jazz enthusiasts who found taking Jazz Cruises a way to indulge both travel and musical interests. They made several trips to Europe together, as well.

In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth C. Safe (2020); her sisters, Marjorie (Herb) Ackerman and Jeanne (Ron) Rittenhouse, her brother, William (Jane) Bernhardt, her mother and father-in-law; Melinda Luella (Lou) and Carl Burton (Burt) Safe, her sisters, and brother-in-law; Carolyn (Wally) Nelson, LaVonne

Ellingson, Lyle (Sandy) Hagman.

Nancy is survived by her brother-in-law, Carl B. Safe, along with many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces/nephews.

Nancy will be laid to rest alongside her husband in Cannon Falls, MN. In lieu of plants or flowers, memorials may be given in memory of Nancy to the ASPCA or Special Olympics.
