Norman “Bud” Ihme passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026. He was born on May 20, 1944, in Bloomington, Illinois.
Bud lived a life defined by hard work, family, and a deep love for the outdoors. He began his career selling shoes before joining the Southland Corporation, where he managed 7-Eleven stores and was eventually transferred to Colorado. Later in life, Bud made a career change and joined UPS, where he spent nine years as a driver followed by fifteen years in management before retiring.
Bud passed away in the same home where his parents, Norm and Mary Ihme, had passed years earlier. As the oldest sibling, Bud outlived his two younger brothers, Don and Ken, and his younger sister, Barb.
Bud was married to Barbara, the mother of his boys, for 14 years. He later married Kathleen; both marriages ended in divorce. Above all else, Bud was immensely proud of his five sons and their wives: Mark & Laura, Norm & Jennifer, Steve & Dana, and Tom & Cary Ihme, and of his son Rich, who passed away from leukemia in 1985. His pride only grew as he became a grandfather to six grandchildren and a great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren.
Bud’s greatest joy was time spent outdoors and sharing that passion with his family. He loved hunting, fishing, skiing, and anything that allowed him to be outside, and he made sure his sons learned to appreciate those same adventures.
One of Bud’s proudest accomplishments was helping start the Ihme Foundation with his sons and their wives in memory of Rich Ihme. The foundation supports Children’s Hospital Colorado and, to date, has raised more than $580,000 to help children and families in need.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that donations be made to the Ihme Foundation at www.ihmefoundation.org.
Bud will be remembered for his strength, his generosity, his love of family, and the many memories he created in the outdoors with those he loved most.
