Patricia S. Perry, 94, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2020 surrounded by the love of her family and friends. She was a light; and her light is still here!
When asked what three words described her most, her family and friends used words like “friendly,” “strong,” and “lovely.” Many used words like “extremely witty, grounded, compassionate, resourceful, clever, and very practical.” Others described her as a “very powerful, strong, and determined woman” and also a “unique, enthusiastic, vibrant, tender-hearted, playful, and loving spirit.”
Patricia was the youngest of three sisters. Her mother managed an apartment building where the family lived, and her father was a salesman whom Eleanor Roosevelt once thought looked like Henry Ford! During the Great Depression, Patricia had to move to live with her Aunt and Uncle for two years of school in Toronto, Canada. Through hard times, she made the most of it, and excelled as a student and a singer. Pat went to Flora Stone Mather College, now part of Case Western Reserve, earning a degree in 1944 from the Teachers College. She joined the war effort by working for an instrument factory supporting Navy ships. In her free time, she went back to her passions for music and volunteered at the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. At the Symphony Hall, Patricia met another usher named Dr. Robert (Bob) Perry. Patricia and Bob fell in love and got married in 1949, and they began a 64-year relationship with family, music, art, global travel, and friendships. Patricia, Bob and family lived in Durango in the 1950s, where Bob practiced medicine as a general practitioner. They moved to Denver in 1960. In 1974-1975, she and Bob served in India and Pakistan on a medical mission. They returned to a full life in Littleton, and took the lead in a variety of roles in the Town of Bow Mar. She was the person most of the new residents got to meet first, truly the “Chief Welcomer”, fondly remembered by many. She also served her community through involvement in the League of Women Voters, Planned Parenthood, and the Koebel Library Board. Bob passed away in 2013 at the age of 91. Her love of family, friends and cooking filled her life. We will miss her witty comments, laughter, and her joy for life!
Pat is survived by her son, Bruce Evans; and daughter, Ann. Her first son, Scott passed away in 1980. Pat leaves five grandchildren; and a growing bundle of five great-grandchildren.
Private services were held. Donations in memory of Patricia S. Perry may be made to the League of Women Voters, 1410 Grant Street, Suite B204, Denver, Colorado, 80203, or the Dumb Friends League, 2080 S. Quebec Street, Denver, CO 80231.
