The family is sad to announce Patricia Kay Smith died on June 16, 2025 at the age of 82 years. She was born to Lee and Katherine Wright on January 25, 1943, was a native of Englewood and graduated from Englewood High School. She then attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She stayed true to Milwaukee and became a Green Bay Packers fan, much to the chagrin of the Bronco fans who surrounded her. After college, she moved back to Englewood, married John W Smith III and had 2 daughters. Her biggest gift to them was to raise them with the knowledge that they could do what they wanted in life. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband (John) of over 50 years, and her beloved daughter Barbara (Jeannie) Smith. She is survived by her daughter Jana (Dean Carr) Smith, her grandson Scott Carr and numerous friends and family.
She was active in politics in Arapahoe County, volunteered for election walks and stayed active in local races. She worked tirelessly for women's rights and supported the Equal Rights Amendment. She also valued education for both herself and her loved ones, after her husband graduated from law school she decided to go back to school and achieved a degree in History from Metro State College. After donating a kidney to her daughter, she supported Jeannie's return to school for a future in the medical field.
She also had great appreciation for music and claimed that Stevie Ray Vaughan was her favorite, although she would catch any concert she could. Recently, while talking about it, she shared memories of where she saw some of the greatest classic rock and roll acts. Her friends and family will miss her dearly and in closing, we have to quote a Stevie Ray song and say: "We all have missed you, and the way you grin. The day is necessary, every now and then, for souls to move on, giving life back again. Fly on, fly on, fly on my friend, go on, live again, love again."
Her family will have a celebration of her life at the home of Anita Zimmerman, 7810 E Mineral Drive, Centennial, CO 80112. If you are planning on attending, please RSVP to Kristen Huddleston at 719-332-3508 (text preferred) and please, come by and see us even if you forget to RSVP!
