He gained admission to Seoul National University and served his country during Korean War, during which he was briefly captured by the enemy. He succeeded in a daring escape and after many ordeals, ultimately graduated with his medical degree in 1957.
Seeking a better life for his beloved mother, Philip emigrated to the United States in 1958 to pursue internship and residency training at Fitkin Memorial Hospital in Neptune, New Jersey, under the mentorship of Dr. Raymond Conover. He returned to the United States in 1964 and completed fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York, NY in 1968, at which time he earned board certification in anatomic and clinical pathology. Following his training, he moved to Philadelphia, PA, where he served as Attending Pathologist at Albert Einstein Medical Center for 30 years until his retirement in 1998. In addition to playing an active role in his department and his hospital, he taught as clinical professor of pathology at Temple University School of Medicine.
