Philip Zimmerman Obituary

Philip J. Zimmerman, most recently of Littleton, Colorado peacefully passed away surrounded by family on June 6, 2025. He was 60 years old.

He was born in Morristown, New Jersey to Edward J. Zimmerman and Kathryn Walsh Zimmerman.  He attended Heritage High School, Colorado State University for his undergraduate degree in Economics and earned his Masters Degree from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.

Upon graduation from Colorado State University, Phil was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps.  The Marine Corps was his career for 29 years. He retired from his last duty station in Guam as a full colonel. Phil was a modest man who didn’t “hang his hat” on the many accolades he received throughout his career. We were very proud when he received the Bronze Star.

Phil enjoyed playing golf with friends and family, cooking, music, connecting with friends and just relaxing with a beverage. He also had a strong Roman Catholic faith.

Phil is survived by his sister Joan (Jim) Madsen of North Carolina, brother Peter (Heidi) Zimmerman of West Virginia, sister Suzanne (Tom) Alton of Littleton, sister Carol Zimmerman of Littleton. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nephews. Melissa Madsen, Ben Madsen, Abby (Jeff) Kuehner, Katie (Morgan) Dokson, JD Zimmerman, Kerri(Jeremiah) Starkey, Katrina Zimmerman, Jacob Zimmerman. Great nephews- Tyler Dokson, Max Dokson, Colin Dokson, Alex Dokson, Kai Keuhner., He was a proud godfather of Oscar Vela II and Patrick Kinsella Boring.

He is preceded in death by parents Edward Zimmerman and  Kathryn Zimmerman and brothers Paul Zimmerman, Andrew Zimmerman and sister in law Julie Zimmerman.

Here is a quote that we feel truly represents Phil-“Brevity is the soul of wit.”

At the request of Phil, there will be no funeral service. His life will be celebrated at a future date at a location he chose with immediate family members.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Angels Foundation. This is a part of Namaste Hospice. The money will go to help people on hospice get needed supplies not covered by their insurance. Namaste Hospice was a wonderful organization that supported Phil and the family in his final days.
