Richard P. Bobbin, affectionately known as Dick, of Highlands Ranch, CO, passed away at home on March 19, 2026, at the age of 83, surrounded by the love of his family.
Dick was born on December 25, 1942, to Jonas Bunevicius and Mariana Liuiza (John and Mary Bobbin). After high school, Dick received his B.S. degree in Pharmacy from Northeastern University in Boston in 1964. That summer Dick traveled to New Orleans to begin a master’s program at Tulane University, studying Pharmacology. While there he met his future wife and love of his life, Madeline, who was working as a secretary for the Department; they were married in August 1966. Dick graduated with a PhD in Pharmacology in 1969 and completed his post-doc work at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Returning to New Orleans in 1971, he joined Kresge Hearing Laboratory at Louisiana State University Health Science Center as a research scientist specializing in hearing and deafness at the molecular level and later in his career became Director of the lab.
During his career Dr. Bobbin was the recipient of numerous grants, published over 100 articles in scientific journals and was invited as guest lecturer at various institutions and conferences. Dr. Bobbin was also in the faculty of LSU School of Nursing, teaching neurophysiology and pharmacology. Dr. Bobbin has mentored and guided many students throughout their careers and was highly respected by all in the auditory research community. In retirement he was bestowed with the honored distinction of Professor Emeritus. In his spare time Dick enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, going to the beach, camping, square dancing, visiting Estes Park and puttering around the house with various projects. Dick and Madeline retired to Colorado in 2006 and enjoyed helping to take care of and spending time with their grandchildren.
Dick was predeceased by parents, John and Mary Bobbin, siblings, Joe Bobbin, Frank Bobbin and Mary Cosgrove. He is survived by his devoted wife, Madeline Bobbin, his adored children, Nathan Bobbin (Colleen) and Lori Bobbin (Herman), and beloved grandchildren, Zoe Bobbin and Cole Bobbin. Dick also leaves behind an extended family of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews whom he cherished deeply.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at Pax Christi Catholic Church, 10675 Jaguar Dr, Lone Tree, CO 80124 on May 7th at 11 o’clock in the morning. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Food Pantry at Pax Christi Catholic Church, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or St Jude Children’s Hospital. Dick will be entombed in Estes Park, CO, during a private family ceremony.
