Richard Bracken Obituary

Richard Carl Bracken, 86 of Littleton, Colorado passed away in his home on June 22, 2022.  Born November 16, 1935 in Washington D.C., his parents were Alfred C. Bracken and Jere Blessing Bracken. 

He was a graduate of Waco High School, California State University of Northridge, and UCLA.

As a U. S. Navy Veteran, he served from 1954 to 1958 on two aircraft carriers, the USS Philippine Sea and USS Bennington, in their anti-submarine squadrons   After serving in the U.S. Navy he worked in the California aerospace industry in the electronics field.  He was honored to work on the Saturn IVB.  

Upon graduating from UCLA, he worked in banking but then moved into the photography field as a design manager for darkroom equipment.  That led to his last career as a manufacturer’s representative in the photo industry for more than 30 years.  He retired in 2014.

Spending time with his family and friends, books, music, inter-club and neighborhood tennis, model trains, photography, music, good food, wine and a newly found enjoyment of bourbons were many of his interests.  His avocation as a sommelier was an accomplishment he loved.  The connection with wine and food led to many good friendships and associations.

He was a member of his professional organization, Photo Marketing Association his entire photo career.  His favorite community organizations of which he was a board member were the American Institute of Wine and Food, Boy Scouts of America, Troop 554, and the Normandy Estates Homeowners Association.

Richard is survived by his wife Sandra Stewart Bracken.  They were married a few days short of 57 years.  He had two children Scott Bracken and Cheryl Bracken.  Amanda Bronson is his only and most special granddaughter.

Also surviving are his niece, Mallory Bracken; nephews, Michael Bracken Jr. (Vickie) and Stephen Bracken; grandnieces Riley and Nicole;  grandnephew, Grayson.  

As his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Michael C. Bracken.
