Robert C. Amme

Robert C. Amme, 92 of Centennial, Colorado passed away on May 19, 2022.  He was predeceased by his wife Janice and son David.  He is survived by his daughter Dianne, daughter in law Susie, 6 grandchildren (Eric, Jimmy, Grant, Erin, Tanner and Paige) and 9 great grandchildren (Olivia (dec.), Isabelle, Vincent, Liliana, Sadie, Sullivan, Buell, Carter and Campbell).

Bob was born in Ames, Iowa and married Janice in 1951 while studying physics at Iowa State University.  In 1959 the family moved to Colorado where he began over 60 years of service at University of Denver.  He served as faculty in the Physics Department and Acting Dean of DU’s College of Arts and Sciences, Dean of Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Director of the Academic Research Center.  He was Physics Department Chairman 1980-1985 and briefly served as Acting Chair of Engineering.  He retired as professor of Physics in 2000 but remained a research professor until his death.

He authored many publications and had an expansive research agenda.  Bob was also an active member of several professional organizations including a fellow of the American Physical Society, a Member of the American Nuclear Society, American Association of Physics Teachers and Society of Sigma Xi.

He enjoyed downhill skiing in winter, motorcycling and jet skiing in the summer in his beloved Rocky Mountains.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday July 10, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Olin Hall on the DU campus.
