Rose-Marie Casburn Obituary

Rose-Marie Janelle Casburn

Rose-Marie “Roma” Janelle Casburn was born on October 19, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri. She started her faith early in life, taking her first communion at Redemptionist Church in Kansas City in 1934.

Roma’s family moved to Denver, Colorado in 1936. She attended St. Mary’s Academy, graduating in 1945. During high school, she worked in the soda fountain at Walgreens, while her father worked as a pharmacist. Upon completion of high school, Roma attended Loretto Heights College.

Roma obtained a teaching certificate in both Colorado and California, and taught in public schools in both states. However, after years of teaching she decided she wanted to pursue a career in the medical field. She studied Medical Technology, became a member of the American Society of Medical Technology, and the Colorado State Society of Medical Technologists in 1958. She was awarded the Denver Medical Technologist of the Year in 1969.

Roma began her career with the Veterans Administration Hospital in Denver in 1959, ultimately retiring on December 29, 1995. During her career in Medical Technology, she also completed her education in Nursing, becoming a Registered Nurse.

Even with her busy career, Roma found time for other hobbies; swimming, handicrafts and sewing among the top. Above all, she lived by faith and stood by her family. She attended morning mass daily, and was a prayer warrior for all. She was a loving aunt to six nieces and nephews, and played an integral role in the development of a dozen great nieces and nephews. Though known as Aunt Roma, she truly played the role of mom, grandma, caregiver and friend. She was always there to help in any way she could, whether it be babysitting or providing a roof for a family member in need, or just lending an ear. Roma never missed a life event for anyone she called family.

Roma went home on August 19, 2019. She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Casburn, her mother, Gertrude “Peggy” Casburn, and her brother, Richard Casburn. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Kathleen Casburn, long-time friend Paul Gleason, six nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
