Ruth King Obituary

Ruth Ann “Ruthie” King
February 3, 1945 – November 6, 2025
Age 80 | Centennial, Colorado

Ruth Ann “Ruthie” (Engebretson) King passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025, in Centennial, Colorado, at the age of 80. She was born on February 3, 1945, in Forest City, Iowa, to Elvina and Clarence Engebretson.

Ruthie grew up in Kiester, Minnesota and after marrying, settled in Parker, Colorado, where she welcomed her first daughter Jennifer. She later lived in Springtown, Texas, where her family grew by two more daughters, Nikki and Molly, before returning to Colorado to raise her girls in Conifer.

Ruthie spent most of her career as a loan officer, working at several banks throughout her life. Outside of work, she loved roller skating, singing, painting, playing cards, and working on puzzles. Ruthie had a lifelong love of music and in her early years performed in a band, The Closers, with her brother Jim.

In later years, Ruthie reconnected with Jerry Trustem in their hometown of Kiester. Together, they made their home in Empire and then Georgetown, Colorado, sharing a love for the mountains and countless adventures along the way.  They were the ultimate “snowbirds” spending time in Arizona during the winter months and making new friends everywhere they went.

She had an adventurous spirit and loved looking for treasures everywhere she went, whether in antique shops, thrift stores, TJMaxx, or the everyday moments of life. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and her love of giving. Gift-giving was truly her love language. Above all, Ruthie’s greatest joy was her family, whom she loved fiercely and unconditionally.

Ruthie was preceded in death by her husband, Iran King; her parents, Elvina and Clarence; her brothers, Virgene and Claude Engebretson; and her angel daughter, Carrie.

She is survived by her loving partner, Jerry Trustem; brother, Jim Engebretson (Wanda); sister, Marcene Moore (Willie); sister-in-law, Selma Engebretson; daughters, Jennifer Sherman (Chris), Nikki King (Todd Stevenson), and Molly Rice (Brandon) who lovingly called her Ma or Momma; and grandchildren, Lane Sherman, Marissa Rice, Adam Stevenson, Justin Stevenson, Cash Rice, and Miles Rice. She also leaves behind her cherished dogs, Halee Francine and Delilah Rose, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her deeply.
