Sheryl Diane MacHendrie was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Sheryl passed away on July 28th 2021, at the young age of 70.
She was born to Carl and Norma Harbert on February 9th 1951, in Newcastle Pennsylvania. Sheryl spent many of her working years as a dedicated special needs teacher and was beloved by her students. Sheryl was most proud of creating a Weld County School District 6 Transition program that allowed students to transition into adulthood and careers outside of their school years. She worked with Special Olympics as a coach and advocate. She enjoyed volunteering at Life Stories as a court appointed special advocate for children, was a victim advocate for the Greeley Police Department, and was a social worker at The Kid’s Place. One of Sheryl’s great joys was volunteering at the Castle Rock Hospital. Unfortunately, due to Covid Pandemic that opportunity was lost. For many years while her boys were young, she coached soccer. In countless ways, she touched so many people’s lives and is beloved by many people, students and friends. Sheryl wore many hats in her life and in every way put the utmost dedication and energy into every task.
That dedication and energy was very apparent in her marriage and how she raised her family. Sheryl was married to her husband Don for 50 years and he credits her with making him a better man. The two of them together raised four kids, Graig, Phillip, Mathew and Danne. Sheryl and Don taught their boys how to be men, how to treat the woman in their lives and worked hard to establish a strong moral background in each of their children. Sheryl is survived by her children’s significant others, Nancy, Crystal, Jamie and Ace and was very proud of her four grandsons, Tristan, Pierce, Ian and Elliott. Sheryl is also survived by her sister Debbie.
Sheryl will be greatly missed by her family, friends and students.
A Celebration of Life Service will be on Tuesday August 17, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Drinkwine Family Chapel.
