Shirley Nye Obituary

Shirley Virginia Nye, 100, of Gepp, Arkansas, passed away on December 11, 2021, peacefully in her sleep as she went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

In 1946, Shirley met William Junior Nye at University Northern Colorado. Shirley and William went on to have 1 child, William John Nye. Shirley is survived by her son William and wife Monique, grandson Marshall and wife Celeste, step-grandsons Andrew and wife Julie, Stephen and wife Shayla, stepdaughter Shannon and husband Eric, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Shirley was born on July 26, 1921, to John A Brown and Dorothy L Brown, maiden name Altman, in Campo, Colorado. After Shirley graduated from Lamar High School, Lamar Colorado in 1939 and she went on to study Bachelor Of Arts Degree in Education at University Northern Colorado, where she met her future husband William Junior Nye. They both graduated in the year 1946.

After graduating with a Bachelors degree in Arts and Education, she wanted to find positions in a rural area, and found two openings at a small schoolhouse which housed every age group at Wetmore, Colorado. "There was only one apartment in town so they married so they could live there together" Shirley said. This began her many years teaching grades 1-5 but loved teaching the 4th grade. Her husband focused on grades 6-12.

Shirley also worked as a WAC (Women’s Air Core) "Rosie The Riveter" with the Blimps. Her positions were Inventory Specialists, and Delivery Driver, during WW2 at Moffett Field, Mountain View, California.

Shirley and her husband wanted to find a farm to buy in 1949 and found 43 acres in Platte Canyon, Littleton, Colorado where they lived "getting up at 3:00 a.m. and again, in the evening after teaching school milking cows for the dairy industry. After 10 years of milking, they decided to sell the dairy cattle and for a short time sold Chinchilla's raising them for skins. Once this ended, they converted the ranch into rental properties, and eventually selling the farm in 1985.

Shirley moved to Gepp, Arkansas where her son William John Nye built her a cottage, where she lived with some of the most fabulous caregivers she could ever ask for. She enjoyed traveling both domestic and abroad, snow skiing, and loved riding horses. The last time she rode her horse was at the age of 84. She stopped driving a car at 94 years of age.

Shirley attended Full Gospel Church in Bakersfield, Missouri, and loved the things of God.
She e taught everyone around her how to live to the fullest and keep going until there is no go left. She was loved by her family, friends so many others. She was faithful to all who knew her. She will be so very missed.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at the Drinkwine Family Chapel in Littleton, Colorado. Interment will be Tuesday, December 28, 2021, in the Littleton Cemetery in Littleton, Colorado.
