Sue Francis Obituary

Sue Ann Miller Francis of Centennial, CO, died on October 18, 2024 at Hallmark Nursing Center in Denver.  Sue was born in Toledo, OH, on September 11, 1945 to Harry J. and Mary Ann (Orwig) Miller.  She was raised in Toledo where she participated in Brownies and Girl Scouts and graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1963.  In 1966 Sue graduated from the Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit, MI, as a Registered Nurse.  She met many lifelong friends during her  training.  Sue began her nursing career at Henry Ford Hospital in Pediatrics but did not like this specialty, so she and a friend opened a day care center.  In 1971 Sue and Phyllis Stevens moved to Pueblo, CO, for nursing positions at Parkview Hospital. While working at the hospital she met and later married David L. Francis on March 30, 1974.  Sue and David subsequently moved to the Denver area where they remained for the rest of their lives.  Sue spent over 40 years as a Cardiac ICU Nurse where she developed long lasting friendships with nurses Ann Rath and Sheron Lavory at Porter Adventist Hospital.  Sue loved to read, travel, play Scrabble, work crossword puzzles, cross stitch and collect antiques.  She had a huge passion for polar bears and made two trips to Churchill, Manitoba, to see them up close.  In addition, she collected a variety of polar bear memorabilia.  Sue's other travels took her to Hawaii, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.  Her interests in antiques included depression glass, salt dips, salt shakers and toothpick holders.  Sue was a very active member of the National Toothpick Holder Collectors' Society and attended many national conventions.  She was also a member of the a Fenton glass club.  Sue loved to get dressed up each year with her friends and watch the Miss America Pageant.  After retiring, she volunteered at the Denver Zoo for over 10 years.  Sue and David were married for 50 years with David preceding her in death by two months.  In addition to her husband, Sue was preceded in death by her parents and her infant brother, John Miller.  She is survived by her brother Gary F. (Susan) Miller of Neapolis, OH.  Sue was cremated.  A celebration of life will be held on October 26th at Hallmark Nursing Care, 3701 W Radcliff, Denver, CO from 6-8pm.  Donations may be made to the Denver Zoo (denverzoo.org/support/memory) or Elevation Hospice (sagefoc.com/elevation-co/#donate) in memory of Sue.
