Susan Virginia Hope passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 25, 2023. She was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, sister and sister-in-law, and friend. She will be greatly missed although her spirit and legacy will live forever in our hearts.
Susan was born February 22, 1943 in Maryland and was raised by her mother Virginia Chisholm, stepfather John Chisholm and grandparents E.J. and Melva McCartt alongside her brother Robert. She lived a life full of love for family and friends and a passion for caring and helping all those around her. She married her husband of 57 years Thomas Hope and had a partnership marriage of loving and sharing. Together they raised two children, Jennifer and John David and have four grandchildren Payton, Claudia, David and Danika, with roots in Texas and Colorado.
Susan’s life was full of helping others. Listening, supporting and entertaining with a light touch. Always attentive to details that others can easily forget. Never judging, never complaining and always positive with a touch of humor and suggestion. But just when you thought you knew her, she would pleasantly surprise you – being more diverse, complex and thoughtful than expected. She used these abilities both within the family and with children and senior groups that needed help. Susan loved art, music, decorating and reading. Often using her talent to teach and inspire others.
As we mourn the loss of an exceptional woman, let us celebrate her life and the profound impact she had on all those who knew her. The family also wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the caregivers who helped Susan and provided comfort and love to her. We kindly request that any memorial donations be made to Child Fund International or Alzheimer’s Foundation.
