Thomas C. Seawell was born in Denver, Colorado on March 10, 1937, and died on June 28, 2022. He was married to Marcia Lee Peterson for 63 joyful and wonderful years; the father of Deborah Lee Seawell (David B. Sunset), Leslie Catherine Seawell (Craig S. Garske) and Diana Lynn Seawell (Andrew P. Nikkari); and the proud “Papa” of Erin Giacomelli Wise (Lee Wise), Jackson Garske, Erik Sunset (Brittney Barreto Sunset) and Michelle Sunset, Olivia and Maxwell Nikkari; and great grandfather to Leah McGilchrist, Emma and Kate Sunset, and Finn and George Wise. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson M. and Ellen Catherine Seawell, his sister, Ann Marie Minzer, and grandson, Garrett Giacomelli.
Tom graduated from East Denver High, Dartmouth College (cum laude) and the University of Colorado School of Law (Order of the Coif and Editor in Chief of the Law Review). He served as an Assistant United States Attorney in Denver and was engaged in private practice in Denver.
Tom served as a Trustee of the Denver Bar Association, President of the Denver Law Club, Founding President and Director of the Faculty of Federal Advocates. He received the Denver Law Club’s Lifetime Achievement Aware and the Faculty of Federal Advocates’ Donald E. Cordova Award for Distinguished Service.
Tom was an enthusiastic outdoorsman who truly loved the Colorado mountains, rivers and streams, where he always found peacefulness amid the creation of our Almighty Father. He grew up camping, hunting and fishing with his parents, sister and brothers, and he and Marcia spent many happy hours four-wheeling and hiking together. He shared his experiences with is daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and professional associates.
