Tom Van Dorn died Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Littleton Adventist Hospital after a short illness.
Tom was born in White Plains, NY and moved to Wyoming as a teenager to go to school and work on his aunt and uncle’s ranch. His move was the impetus to get his family to move to Cheyenne, WY. He married Sharon (Artman) Van Dorn and both had long careers at Norgren, Inc. Tom’s career as a Quality Engineer allowed him to make life long friends at the company.
Tom held to live life on his own terms – a perspective common in the Van Dorn family. Sometimes at odds with social convention, it never the less helped form Tom’s unique character and his interests in life. Tom loved Colorado and the Rocky Mountains - he enjoyed reading, all things related to the West, Cowboy Cooking, and genealogy. Tom especially loved a good story and told many of his own when he had the chance.
Tom is survived by his mother Jeanette, his siblings: Raymond, Janice, Richard, Steven, Jill Kline, Jennifer, Larry, and Linda along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. He was pre-deceased by his wife Sharon, his son Michael, father Edward, and brothers, Jim and Jeff.
A memorial service will be held at Drinkwine Family Mortuary in Littleton on Wednesday, December 1st at 1:30 with a reception at the mortuary to allow his friends and family to share stories and memories of Tom. A funeral mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Cheyenne, WY will be held on December 3rd with burial following. No reception or grave-side service in Cheyenne is planned.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Friends of the Littleton Library and Museum, 6028 South Gallup Street, Littleton, CO 80120-2703 or an organization supporting the Colorado Wilderness.
