Virginia Hagberg Obituary

Virginia Mae Hagberg, R.N: A Life Well-Lived

March 24, 1943 — August 26, 2024

Virginia Mae Hagberg, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2024, in Littleton, Colorado. Born on March 24, 1943, in the small town of Stambaugh, Michigan, Virginia was a pillar of strength, compassion, and grace throughout her remarkable 81 years. Her beautiful smile could brighten anyone’s day.

Virginia, or Ginger, as she was affectionately known, was the youngest child of David and Katherine (McGuire) Kinney. She was named by her older sister, Patricia. Along with her sister, Ginger was loved by her older brother, David Derald. Her early childhood years were spent in Iron River, Michigan. In 1957, Ginger and her parents moved to the small town of Climax, Colorado where her dad became a hard rock miner. A year later, they moved down the road to Leadville, Colorado.

After a brief first marriage that ended with the death of her first husband, Virginia was blessed to find lasting love with Mangus Hagberg (Mac). The young couple became a true-to-life “His Mine & Ours” story. At their May 29,1965 wedding, Ginger became a full-time mom to Mac’s two kids Joi and Gus, in addition to the four children from her first marriage, David, Darwin, Darla and Derek. Later, two “Ours” children, Melody and Derald, completed the family of ten. As a perfect team, Ginger and Mac united the extended family and built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

After raising their children, Virginia returned to school and became a Registered Nurse. She started her career working at several Denver hospitals before landing a job in Leadville as a hospice nurse. Ginger dutifully attended to both homebound and St. Vincent’s Hospital’s patients. Later, she and Mac moved to Grand Junction, Colorado and Ginger tended to patients at a nursing home for several years until her retirement. Nursing allowed Virginia to positively impact countless lives with her gentle touch and caring heart.

A woman of many interests, Virginia had a unique hobby of collecting bells. Her collection, amassed over the years, reflected her love for life's simple pleasures. She also had a soft spot for animals, especially cows. During her lifetime, Ginger often had multiple pets including dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, guinea pigs, and even horses. Singing and dancing were a favorite pastime of Ginger’s and not even a wheelchair could stop Ginger and Mac from delighting a crowd with their mesmerizing dance moves. Ginger liked cheering on the Colorado Rockies, her favorite sports team. She shared many memorable trips with family and friends across the U.S. (including Hawaii and Alaska) and Canada.

Virginia's legacy is carried on by her loving family, including her devoted husband, Mangus P. Hagberg (Mac), and her children, David Webster (Cindy), Darwin Webster (Kathy), Gustav Hagberg (Thea), Darla Renzi (Gene), Joi Libsack, Melody Hagberg, Derek Webster (Cindy), and Derald Hagberg (Sarah). Virginia was a grandma to Kendra Jaurez, Nicole Webster, Kristie Hagberg, Danielle Webster, Nicholas Webster, Caitlan Webster, Andrew Webster, Joseph Renzi, Elizabeth Renzi, Trinity Savala, Samuel Hagberg, and April Hagberg. In addition, Virginia was a great-grandmother to Corbin, Zoey, Khloe, Gracie, Saydee, and Myla. Ginger also is survived by her brother-in-law, David Hagberg and several nieces and nephews. Her family’s love and support were constants in Ginger’s life, and she took great pride in celebrating all their accomplishments and happiness. Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister.

While the world has lost a truly wonderful and loving woman, she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A celebration of Virginia's life will be held at a later date, where friends and family will gather to share stories, pictures, laughter, and love, just as she would have wanted.
