William Altimari Obituary

William George Altimari, Jr. passed away on July 13, 2018 at his home in Parker, Colorado. Bill was born on October 29, 1927 in Atchison, Kansas to William and Maurine Altimari. He and his only sibling, Philip, spent many happy hours in their salvaged sailboat at the family cabin on Bean Lake, Boy Scout activities, and band; which William Sr. conducted.

In 1945, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Navy. The war ended soon after, and by 1946 he was working on his education degree from the University of Kansas; later he finished a second degree in forestry from Colorado State University. Bill would go on to complete a Masters in education from the University of Denver and a Doctorate in education from the University of Colorado. Bill’s many years of productive work included house construction, ranger positions at several national parks, teaching social studies in Denver, principal of Littleton High School and Assistant Superintendent of the Littleton School District.

Bill was married to his wife, Doris, for 62 happy years. They tried to spend as much time as possible in the Colorado mountains camping, hiking, canoeing, sailing and skiing with their children. From the early days of climbing mountains and snowshoeing across Trail Ridge to the last years of sitting on the porch of the Breckenridge cabin, Bill never tired of soaking in every detail of the natural world around him.

He is survived by his son Gregg Altimari and daughter-in-law Priscilla Altimari of Alma, Colorado; his daughter Lynne Jacobsen, son-in-law Jay Jacobsen, grandchildren Brooke, Johanna, Luke and Paul of Sequim, Washington; and his grandchild Jay and wife Justine and great grandchildren Walter, Elsie and Henry of Grafenwoehr, Germany.

A memorial service will be held at 11:15 AM on Wednesday, August 8 at Ft. Logan National Cemetery; staging area "C", in Denver, Colorado.
