Yolande Louise Nicolette Free went home to Jesus on April 29, 2024, at the age of 72.
Yolande was born in The Hague, Netherlands on March 24, 1952, to Jules and Carolina “Carla” (de Roy) Prins. She grew up in a loving family with two sisters and one brother. In 1958 her family immigrated to the United States where she had many adventures growing up in California, Colorado and Pennsylvania. On Valentine’s Day 1970, Yolande met the love of her life, Roger Free, and they married on September 25, 1971. They moved from Pennsylvania to Washington DC then to Littleton, Colorado where they raised two children.
Yolande was an exceptional mother who dedicated her time to her children and grandchildren. She was actively involved in all their activities, including the Girl Scouts. Yolande also participated in various classroom activities, the PTA and other school programs. She took great pride in the time she spent volunteering at Columbine High School where she provided guidance to students on their options after high school, including college and scholarship opportunities. In addition, she supported students and staff following the tragic school shooting in 1999. Moreover, she selflessly gave her time to various organizations such as the Leawood Civic Association, the Glenn Garcelon Foundation, and Respite Care. She was also a dedicated parishioner at Littleton United Methodist Church.
Yolande is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Roger, as well as her children Christine Caesar (husband John) and Samantha Baynes, and her five grandchildren, Hayley, Jocelin, Cianna, Kyla and Landin, and siblings Jacqueline Pugh (husband William), Jules Prins (wife Carrie), brothers Lucas Prins and Jacob Prins (wife Angela), as well as an aunt and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Marinette Prins Troup.
