Rush Kent Calkins, 65, of Denver, CO, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Saturday, March 11, 2017.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 25th at Drinkwine Funeral Home, 999 W. Littleton Blvd, Littleton, CO, 80120.  Father Marty Hunckler will be officiating.  A reception will follow beginning at 1:00 pm at Romano’s Italian Restaurant, 5666 S Windermere St, Littleton, CO 80120.

Rush was born in Fort Worth, Texas on May 30, 1951 to Barbara (Mariana) and Jerry Calkins.  He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Colorado Springs, CO. He spent 44 happy years with the love of his life, Alice (McKellip). Rush spent 25 years working at Hyland Hills Parks and Recreation district as Superintendent.  Prior to and during his career at Hyland Hills, he and Alice ran many successful businesses such as Calkins Concrete, A and R Upholstery, and Alice’s Secret Garden.  He was a very loving family-man who enjoyed and valued spending time with his children and grandchildren. Rush was a true artistic craftsman with numerous hobbies that involved restoration, construction, and creation.  If Alice could dream it, he could build it. His work ethic was unsurpassed and admirable.  He was a jack of all trades whose knowledge in many fields allowed him to be a resource to so many people, especially his children.  Rush was a car enthusiast who enjoyed hot rods, a skillful carpenter, an excellent chef, an encyclopedia of old songs, and a great winemaker.

Rush is survived by his wife, Alice (McKellip), and his four children, Lisa Calkins, Jessi Linebarger (John), Sarah Fierro (Matt) and Spencer Calkins (Leslie); grandchildren, Ethan, Izzy, Alyssa, Reece, Lola, Kyle, Allison. Sisters; Jennifer Ro-Trock (Larry), Sandra Della Ripa (Chet), Serene Calkins (Shelly), Theresa Calkins, Aunt JoAnn and sister-in-laws, Doris McKellip, Joyce Robblee, Pat Kennedy (Jack), Shirley Deisher (John), brother in-law Lester McKellip (Liza), and many beloved nieces, nephews, close friends, and extended family.   He is preceded in death by his parents, Barbara and Jerry.

He will be missed immeasurably as he touched the lives of so many people and was loved by those who knew him.
