In Ed's obituary there was a small and surely unnoticed omission. Prior to joining the Air Force, Ed briefly served as an inspector with the Hudson Municipal Air Pollution Commission, a small upstart environmental health agency with offices at 532 Summit Avenue, Jersey City. As a new inspector for that agency, I knew and worked with him from the date of my hiring in September of 1971 to the date of his departure, December 17 of that same year. While his tenure was brief, the impression he made on those who were fortunate enough to know him was profoundly enduring.
In a short time we became close friends and working with him was a daily pleasure. He was without question one of the most engaging genuine people I have ever known. I can vividly and sadly recall the day he left for the Air force.
I always meant to reach out and somehow locate him but was never able to do so until tonight when sadly, to my disbelief, I found this obituary. There is no one that I can call to share this sad news with because all of the staff of that small agency are gone, except for me. So, all that's left to say is rest in peace my good friend and my most sincere condolences to your family.

I drew Ed's blood at Bonfils on So. Wadsworth for many years. Ed always had a smile on his face and laughter in his heart.
Prayers for peace for those loved ones left behind.

To the Hollingshead Family,
Ed and Marian were at our home for a Boeing event just before Ed had his stroke. I'll always remember his great smile, sparkling personality, and great intelligence. He was a wonderful manager and was popular with all. He is missed by all of us who worked with him. We are sorry for your loss and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Marian, Kristy, and Dawn,
Kathy and I send our deepest condolences during this time of sorrow. Ed and I were stationed together at Carswell AFB from 1973-75, and he was actually my first AF trainer. More importantly, we became great friends as our AF careers progressed! Ed, may God bless you and keep you in his hands forever!

Sincerely,
Alan & Kathy Gibbs

My sincere condolences to Marian and family on Ed’s passing. I had the honor to be a colleague of Ed’s for a number of years at Martin Marietta while working on an Air Force contract to integrate Air Force spacecraft into NASA’a Space Shuttle. After the Challenger accident, our small integration engineering team was dispersed and each of us was assigned to other projects. By phone or email, every six months Ed called our group back together (along with fellow engineer Tom B.) for a semi-annual lunch / MISC Alumni reunion – for over a dozen years until his health failed. Ed was without a doubt the most vibrant extraverted engineer I’ve ever met. I’m sure he was an outstanding mediator as well, capable of understanding complex issues and diverse opinions – and using his gifts to resolve problems and bring people together. Our world needs more Ed’s. May you rest in Peace old friend. Your legacy lives on.

Ed was such a delight at Martin Marietta. I was a new grad at my first job and was anxious about how I would fit in with the older male employee population. One day I came in early and heard Ed over the cube walls singing Donny Osmond's Puppy Love. What a treat! I knew then he was someone I could fit in with. 30 years later, I still think of him with fondness.
So sorry for your loss.

My deepest condolences to the Hollingshead family on his passing. I worked with Ed at Martin Marietta (then) in the 80s. We worked hard and got the job done, but could always count on Ed to bring humor and camaraderie to the job. He was a wonderful colleague!

It has been so long since we have seen each other so needless to say, I was shocked to see Ed's picture this morning in the paper. My love and prayers go out to you,Marian, and the girls. Both you and Ed showed the world what a true Christian is. Ed was such a gentle soul . I will always be grateful for the way you reached out to me in my time of need. May he rest in peace and I pray the Lord will wrap His loving arms around you and give you strength . I am so sorry.

My condolences to the Hollingshead family on Ed's passing. I worked with young Ed at the AFGWC in the late 1970's. I was impressed with his quiet demeanor, and friendly and intelligent discussions on our mid shifts. We were in different branches, but shared a common workspace. May he rest in peace.

With deepest sympathy to the family of Edward, during your time of grief. The faithful man Job ask.. “If a man dies, can he live again? I will wait all the days of my compulsory service Until my relief comes. You will call, and I will answer you. You will long for the works of your hand.” Job 14: 14-15. Jesus spoke about that day at John 5:28-29 that all those in the memorial tombs will come out. What a wonderful time that will be. May our God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ grant you comfort in your time of need.
