Aug. 2, 2018. Dr. Frank Major was the brilliant surgeon who saved my life on Aug.2, 1999. I always think of him on this day (and many other days), and was saddened to learn today of his passing. Other doctors gave me two years to live - if I did well with the chemo. After my surgery Dr. Major ended up supervising my care and chemo for 5 1/2 years! He was so compassionate and encouraging (as was Paula). I was 54 years old at the time of my surgery and am now 73. In the past 19 years that I have been given I have had many wonderful occasions including welcoming two new daughters-in-law, two additional grandsons, graduations, weddings, some great vacations, and our 50th wedding anniversary. I am now doing well and have been in remission for 14 years. We believe that we definitely have been given a miracle, and Frank Major was a big part of that. Just wanted to let you know that we loved your father very much.

I was a colleague of Frank at Denver General Hospital for several years. He was a wonderful physician and friend. He was also an excellent teacher who trained many residents and medical students with his knowledge and skill in the Operating Room.
He will be missed by all.
My sincerest condolences.

I had the pleasure of working with Frank at P/SL. In addition to his vast knowledge and surgical abilities, I admired the way he treated people with respect and friendliness, always. He was a wonderful person.

To: Frank's Family
I cannot relieve the pain, I know you all must feel. For me, a good friend and mentor, who sculpted my clumsy hands and knowledge into finesse and wisdom, has been lost. I was one of your Dad's residents during the 1980's. Frank was the best attending I ever had. He never settled for "good." Your work had to be excellent and rise to his level, He wasn't coming down to yours, We busted our behinds for your Dad and Mom (a Saint) because they treated us like extended family. For many years your parent's end-of-June party, was the only brief break where the residents got to enjoy one another.

I worked with five Gyn-Oncologists during my four years of training. Compared to the other four, your Dad was the Master; especially in the OR. Complex operations took half as long; patients lost less blood and outcomes were far better than other attending's when your Dad and Mom were looking after the patient.

I was in my twenties and early thirties back then. I'm now in my late 50's. Here's all you really need to know. During your Dad's life there were many people who became famous because of what they said or did. However, after all was said and done, the world wasn't any better. John Glenn is an excellent example. Great guy. He flew around the earth a few times and served in the Senate, but who's life is better?

Your Dad never said a lot, and outside of his circle wasn't well known. However , his actions advanced women's gyn cancer treatment decades ahead of where it had been. Ten's of thousands of women, along with their families, are alive and grateful today because of your parent's care. And when many of us doctors pick up that scalpel, we know Frank's spirit sits right over our shoulder. That's a legacy that can never be duplicated or taken away.

May God bless all of you.

It is with a heavy heart that Medicine In Action begins its upcoming mission in November in Jamaica. We have lost an invaluable team member who made impactful contributions on our missions. Dr. Frank Major, a gynecological oncologist, has taken flight to be with the Lord today, October 18, 2016. Dr. Major mentored students, medical residents and physician colleagues in our clinics and during surgeries. He shared his vast knowledge with us all. His unwavering support will be remembered always as his contributions during our missions positively impacted the quality of care we provided to the people of Jamaica. Frank was a remarkable man and everyone at MIA is better for having known him. For those of us that had the privilege of knowing and working with him , we were humbled by his kindness and compassion to everyone around him. He will be missed dearly.

Dear Major family,
Please know that your Hardy cousins are with you in spirit and in prayer. Uncle Frank will be greatly missed, but I hope you take comfort in the wonderful memories of time spent with him; it was always apparent that, to him, his family was his greatest accomplishment. Sending love-

I was honored to work with Frank in the late 1970s while at the University of Colorado Medical School. He made our year there worthwhile. I have been a friend of his ever since. I was shocked by his death. He will be missed by a large number of people. He was a great person and friend. May his soul rest in peace.
